Project Engineer - Building

We are seeking to recruit a Project Civil/Structural Engineer to join our busy and successful design team. The primary function of the team is to provide sustainable design solutions for all aspects of Civil and Structural engineering, and the provision of technical advice. Project involvement can range from feasibility through to construction. Projects will typically include Schools, Hospitals, Custodial, Highway Structures, Commercial Developments, amongst others.

The role will involve you working on projects of varying value, either as part of a team on large projects or as an individual on smaller ones. A track-record of working in multi-disciplinary teams is essential. You will support the Senior Project Engineer in delivering Civil and Structural Design services to the in-house client, accepting delegated responsibility as required. You will work with and manage the Engineers and CAD/BIM Technicians that you are teamed with/given responsibility for.

A major part of your role will be a combination of carrying out engineering design/analysis and managing it. In doing so you will ensure that the work you are responsible for complies with current legislation.

You will be familiar with working with a Building Information Model (BIM) and will promote the benefits of working in this way.

A project budget will be assigned and you will report financial progress to the SPE. You will be able to draft a delivery programme and report on progress when required. You will be able to monitor project resources and alert the SPE of events that cause issues with delivery etc.

Ability to manage others of Senior Engineer grade and below

 Ability to author letters, reports, specifications, emails, etc. in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to advise on presentation of drawn information
  • Good oral communication

 Ability to independently carry out/ manage engineering analysis of complex problems

  • Ability to carry out/manage design in the four main structural materials to current codes of practice
  • Computer Software: Ability to use Engineering analysis/design software (such as SCIA Engineer, Robot, Tedds, Scale, etc.). Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint, etc). Should be familiar with AutoCAD (advanced knowledge if preferred), Revit, Navisworks, MS Project

 Be able to assist in fee calculation and monitoring

  • Have an appreciation of construction costs and be able to advise clients on most cost effective solutions
  • Ability to understand the contractual implications of actions
