Senior Mechanical Engineering - Technology, Peterborough

 
This is an exciting opportunity to influence the Mechanical Engineering Team in Peterborough
Main Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • You will be a key member of the Design Team that provides design services and technical expertise  as part of an integrated team delivering feasibility, scoping, detailed design and construction support to the clients asset management programme. You will provide technical input in all areas of Mechanical Engineering including Mechanical Plant arrangements, sizing and selection, Pipework and ductwork design and sizing, Instrumentation, Control process, logic and strategy.

  • Other typical duties will include: - The review and approval of;
  • Drawings for plant general arrangements, Pipe and ductwork layouts, Process flow diagrams, instrumentation loop diagrams, P&ID’s, control system architecture drawings, and cable, instrument and I/O schedules
  • User requirement specifications / control philosophies, tender documentation including particular Mechanical and ICA specifications, schedules of prices and engineer's estimates
  • Scheduling and resourcing attendance at factory and site acceptance tests
  • Scheduling and resourcing attendance at site for site supervision
  •  Providing input to bids and project management of appropriate projects
  • Ability to be able to scale designs to meet and suit budget and cost plans
  • Work on projects in the water and wastewater sectors.
  • Undertake initial feasibility and scoping, through detailed design, to support for procurement, construction, commissioning and final handover of projects.
  • Undertake production of technical reports, calculations, development of design and construction drawings and specifications in compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Liaison with clients, contractors and suppliers, stakeholders and third parties to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams to ensure our wide range of projects are delivered on time, to the correct specification and within budget.
  • Use appropriate software to provide advice, solutions and successful project outcomes for clients.

Profile
 
Skills/Knowledge /Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject.
  • A member (or working towards membership) of a relevant engineering institution i.e.IMechE.
  • Experience in water industry and preferably previous experience in the Mechanical and ICA elements in the design of water / wastewater treatment plants and water / wastewater networks.
  • Proven Mechanical design management experience within the water and wastewater industries
  • Excellent technical knowledge of your field and be able to advise other disciplines regarding aspects of their design as it impacts Mechanical engineering issues
  • Able to demonstrate substantial knowledge of Water and Waste water distribution systems, motor control centres/control panels.
  • Knowledge of PLC control system networking, SCADA and telemetry systems applicable to your experience would be useful
  • Practical knowledge of the implementation of functional safety and BSEN 61508 would be desirable
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to integrate into the existing plant engineering team and work with colleagues from other disciplines and clients - Good communication
  • Valid UK driving licence

  • Demonstrate continuing maintenance of professional development and knowledge of current and emerging technical solutions you should be prepared to spend periods working away from your base location of Peterborough, in multi discipline co-located offices in the UK.
  • Computer literate with a good understanding of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD. Autodesk products and BIM 360 Field
  • Strong communication skills - both written and oral.

  • Excellent organisational skills and able to multi-task.
  • Able to plan and prioritise work load effectively.
  • Good commercial skills and understanding.
